'Coon Skin Hats

Coon-skin hats were a huge fad in
the 1950's, all due to Fess Parker's portrayal of Davy Crockett (left). Every boy
had to have one and wore it everywhere he went; even to bed. But long before the
fad, raccoon skins were used as an insulation from the elements by the fur traders during
the 1700's and the american indians knew the value of raccoon skin not only for hats but
for shoes and clothing as well.
